§ 01Deliverables

What you receive

Formal sheets that pass the drawing rules, and figures that carry the explanation.

  1. Mechanical and perspective views

Line drawings of devices and assemblies, with exploded, sectional, and detail views where they help, drawn with consistent line weights and hatching.

  2. Flowcharts and block diagrams

Method steps and system architectures, laid out so each box and arrow uses the same language as the specification.

  3. Schematics

Circuit diagrams, signal paths, and timing diagrams drawn with standard symbols and clean, readable routing.

  4. Consistent reference numerals

Numerals checked against your specification, so the numbers in the text match the numbers on the sheets, figure after figure.

  5. Formal sheets and source files

USPTO-format PDF sheets, sized and margined to the drawing rules, plus editable source files on request.

§ 02Overview

When teams use it

10

Practitioners with a filing deadline

Hand off production and keep your time for the claims. We work from your specification and take mark-ups from you directly. See how we support practitioners.

12

Inventors turning sketches into sheets

Hand sketches, photos, and prototype notes become formal figures your practitioner can file.

14

Corrected or replacement sheets

When your practitioner needs corrected sheets during prosecution, we produce them to their instructions.

16

Software and systems inventions

Flowcharts and block diagrams are often the only figures a software application has. They deserve the same care as a machine drawing.

§ 03Process

How it works

  1. 01

    Send the materials

Specification, sketches, photos, CAD exports, or an earlier set to rework. We sign an NDA before you send technical files, and a free scoping call leads to a fixed-fee written quote within one business day.

  2. 02

    Agree on the figure plan

We list the figures, views, and reference numerals we'll draw, and confirm the plan with you or your practitioner.

  3. 03

    First proofs

First proofs in 3–5 business days for a typical set. Rush timing is available when scope allows, quoted separately.

  4. 04

    Two revision rounds

Mark up the proofs, or have your practitioner do it. Two revision rounds are included.

  5. 05

    Final delivery

USPTO-format PDF, plus source files on request, delivered to you or your practitioner.

§ 04Context

The rules are the floor. The explanation is the job.

Good patent drawings do two jobs at once. They satisfy formal rules, and they make the specification easier to understand. The rules are specific. Under 37 CFR 1.84, drawings are normally black and white with solid black lines; color drawings are accepted in utility applications only after a petition is granted; sheets are either A4 or 8½ by 11 inches with set minimum margins; reference characters must be at least 0.32 cm (1/8 inch) tall; and views are numbered “FIG. 1,” “FIG. 2,” and so on.

Formalities are the floor. The real work is choosing views that carry the explanation: an exploded view that shows how parts relate, a section that reveals the mechanism inside, a flowchart whose boxes use the same words as the specification. Explode anything carefully enough and it becomes an argument.

Consistency matters as much as clarity. Reference numeral 214 should mean the same part in every figure and in every paragraph that mentions it. Mismatches are easy to make when a specification changes late, and tedious to fix after filing. We check numerals against the text before you see the first proof.

§ 05 — Boundaries

What this is not

  • Not drafting. We don't write specifications or claims, or decide what the drawings should disclose. That is your practitioner's role.
  • Not filing. We deliver files to you or your practitioner; we don't submit anything to the USPTO.
  • Not legal advice on whether drawings satisfy disclosure requirements. We follow the formal drawing rules; sufficiency is for your practitioner to judge.
  • Not marketing art. For color renders and animation, see 3D Visualization & Animation.

Metadragons LLC is not a law firm. We support registered practitioners with production.

§ 06Questions

Questions buyers ask

Something else on your mind? Call (505) 357-5188 or write to info@metadragons.com.

What do you need from me?

The specification or a draft, plus sketches, photos, CAD exports, or a prototype description. Rough is fine; hand sketches on paper work. Tell us your filing deadline.

How long does it take?

First proofs in 3–5 business days for a typical set. Large sets take longer and are quoted accordingly. Rush timing is available when scope allows and is quoted separately.

Do you publish prices?

No. Each set is quoted as a fixed fee in writing, within one business day of a free scoping call. Our article on what drives the cost of patent drawings explains the variables.

Do you work with my patent attorney or agent?

Yes. We support registered practitioners with production and take mark-ups from them directly. If you don't have a practitioner, we can share a list of independent practitioners to contact. We receive no referral fees.

Is my invention kept confidential?

Yes. Sketches and specifications arrive under an NDA signed before any technical disclosure. They stay in US-based systems, encrypted in transit and at rest, and are never used to train AI models. On request, we delete them within 30 days of project close.

What if the specification changes after the revision rounds?

New figures or further changes are quoted before any work starts. Nothing is billed beyond the quote without your written approval.
