§Services
Patent illustration services, from formal sheets to 3D renders
USPTO-format utility and design drawings prepared from your specifications or sketches, plus 3D renders and animations for decks, grants, and licensing packets. Two revision rounds are included on drawings.

§ 01Context
Two jobs, kept separate on purpose
Our patent illustration services cover two different jobs. The first is compliance: drawings that meet the USPTO's rules on line work, sheet size, margins, and numbering, so formalities don't slow an application down. The second is explanation: visuals that make an invention clear to an investor, a grant reviewer, or a licensee in 10 seconds.
The drawing is the only part of a patent everyone reads first. Examiners, buyers, and competitors usually meet the figures before they work through the claims, so a confusing figure costs attention that the text then has to win back. Clear figures, consistent numerals, and views chosen to explain are worth the care.
We prepare drawings from client-supplied specifications, sketches, and CAD files, and we support registered practitioners with production. We don't draft applications or decide what a figure should disclose; that is your practitioner's call. Read more about how we work with practitioners, or see what drives the cost of patent drawings.
§ 02Overview
Three kinds of visual work
Utility Patent Drawings
Black-and-white line drawings, flowcharts, block diagrams, and schematics in USPTO format, with two revision rounds included.
First proofs in 3–5 business days12Design Patent Drawings
Shaded views and the standard set of views, including GUIs, icons, and projected or AR/VR interfaces.
First proofs in 4–6 business days143D Visualization & Animation
Exploded views, renders, and short animations for pitch decks, SBIR proposals, trade shows, and licensing packets.
2–4 weeksFormal drawings make an application complete. Good drawings make an invention understood.
We do both, and we never confuse one for the other.
§ 03Process
How drawing projects run
- 01
Scope and quote
Describe the project in general terms. A free 20–30-minute scoping call leads to a fixed-fee written quote within one business day, and we sign an NDA before you send technical files.
- 02
First proofs
First proofs in 3–5 business days for utility drawings and 4–6 for design drawings. 3D work takes 2–4 weeks, depending on scope.
- 03
Two revision rounds
Mark up the proofs, or have your practitioner do it. Two revision rounds are included on drawings.
- 04
Final files
Drawings arrive as USPTO-format PDF, plus source files on request. 3D work arrives in the formats your deck, proposal, or booth needs.
§ 04Questions
Common questions about drawings
Something else on your mind? Call (505) 357-5188 or write to info@metadragons.com.
Do you work directly with patent attorneys and agents?
Yes. We support registered practitioners with production and take mark-ups from them directly. We don't draft or file applications.
Do you publish prices?
No. Every project gets a fixed-fee written quote within one business day of a free scoping call. Rush timing is available when scope allows and is quoted separately.
Can 3D renders be used as patent drawings?
Not as a rule. USPTO drawings follow strict formatting rules under 37 CFR 1.84, and color in utility applications needs a granted petition. Renders are communication assets for people. We make both, from the same source files where possible.
How do design searches and design drawings fit together?
A Design & Interface Patent Search shows the nearby designs first, which can inform the views your practitioner chooses. The drawings then present your design itself.

§Next step
Send what you have. We'll draw the rest.
Sketches, CAD files, or a specification are all good starting points. After a free scoping call, you'll have a fixed-fee written quote within one business day.
